Frequently asked questions

Everything communities and families ask us most.

What is MindUp?

MindUp is a calendar system for senior living communities: a wall-mounted tablet in each resident's room shows an easy-to-read daily schedule, and web portals let facility staff and family members manage what appears on it. Learn more about it for facilities or for families.

Does the resident have to operate the tablet?

No. The tablet is a display, not a device to manage — always on, nothing to tap, charge, or learn. Residents just look at it.

What happens if the Wi-Fi goes out?

The tablet keeps showing the schedule it already has and reconnects automatically when the network returns. No staff intervention is needed.

How do family members get access?

Family members request access through the family portal and community staff approve each request. Only approved family members can view a resident's calendar or add to it.

Can the display be simplified for memory care residents?

Yes. Each resident's screen can be switched between views — from a fuller calendar down to a simple today-only view with a family note and photo — and adjusted in seconds as needs change. See our memory care page for details.

What does setup look like for a facility?

Staff create groups (like Assisted Living or Memory Care), add residents, and mount a tablet in each room. Registering a tablet is a one-time QR-code scan from the staff dashboard; after that it runs unattended.

What does MindUp cost?

We're currently running a free pilot program for a limited number of communities. Contact melinda@mindupllc.com for pilot availability and pricing.

What does a community need to run MindUp?

Wi-Fi that reaches resident rooms, a wall outlet per tablet, and a web browser for staff. The portals are web apps, so there is nothing to install on facility computers.

How long does setup take?

Most communities enter their current activity calendar in an afternoon — recurring events build the monthly repeats automatically. Registering each tablet is a one-time QR scan from the staff dashboard.

Can several family members share access to one resident?

Yes. Each family member gets their own approved login for the same resident, and they see each other's events — handy for siblings coordinating visits.

Can a resident change or break the display?

No. The tablet is a managed display with nothing for the resident to operate. Display settings are changed by staff or approved family members from the portals.
